Volleyball Wraps Up Regular Season This Weekend

Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst Volleyball team returns home for their final two games of the regular season, as they host Edinboro on Friday, followed by Gannon on Saturday.    

  1. Seniors 

The Lakers will honor Alexa Mitchell, Maggie Thomas, Corinne Bechtold, Madalynn Ward, and Kate Hennessy for Senior Day on Saturday against Gannon.       

  1. History Lesson 

The Lakers played Edinboro earlier in the season, suffering a 3-0 loss at Edinboro.  In the match, Kate Hennessy led the Lakers with nine kills, while adding a block.  Alia Mastromatteo had twelve assists, while adding three service aces.  The Lakers came up short in a 3-0 loss at Gannon earlier in the year.  In the match, Kaitlin Murphy led the Lakers with eight kills.  Alexa Mitchell added eight assists, and Kate Hennessy added eight digs.     

  1. Flashback 

The Lakers traveled for the final time in the regular season as they traveled to Clarion and UPJ last week.  In the matchup with Clarion, the Lakers battled in the first set, but couldn't come away with the win in the set and Clarion was able to win the next two sets to take the match 3-0.  It was a match that saw Kate Hennessy finish with nine kills, and Alexa Mitchell added 14 assists.  Maggie Thomas finished with a season high in blocks with four.  In the matchup with UPJ, the Lakers dropped the first two sets before battling back in the third set, but it wasn't enough as UPJ took the match 3-0.  Kate Hennessy led the Lakers in kills with ten, while adding three service aces to her stat line.  Andrea Zaric finished with twelve digs, which is the second most she has posted in a match this season.

  1. A Look at the Opponents 

Edinboro is 12-12 overall and 7-7 in the PSAC this season.  Natalie Pallone leads the Scots in kills with 249 and is second on the team in blocks with 68.  Abigale Sobeleski leads the Scots in assists with 480.  Carly Pry leads the Scots in digs with 403.   

Gannon is 22-3 overall and 13-1 in the PSAC this season.  The Golden Knights are currently on a 13-game winning streak that dates back to the end of September when they beat Seton Hill to start the win streak.  Journey Blevins leads the Goden Knights in kills with 407.  Marta Roicka leads the Golden Knights in assists with 572.  Lauren Atwell leads the Golden Knights in blocks with 78. 

The match on Friday against Edinboro is set for 6 PM, followed by the match on Saturday against Gannon at 1 PM.
