Lakers Return to the Ice for Matchup with Lindenwood

St. Charles, MO. - The Mercyhurst Women's Ice Hockey returns to action this weekend when they travel to Lindenwood for a weekend series.  The Lakers currently sit at 6-11-1 overall, and 3-3 in the CHA.  Puck-drop for Friday's game is set for 6 PM.           

  1. History Lesson 

The Lakers lead the all-time series 39-8-1 over the Lions, with the Lakers winning four times a season ago.  The Lakers outscored the Lions 12-5 in those games.         

  1. Flashback 

The Lakers were off this past weekend, but the previous week they hosted Penn State for a CHA matchup.  In game one, Ena Nystrøm and the Lakers blanked the Nittany Lions 4-0.  The Lakers scored three times in the second period as Kylee Mahoney and Vanessa Upson each had a power-play goal, and Sofia Nuutinen added another.  Sydney Pedersen added a goal in the third period to make it 4-0.  Sara Boucher and Sydney Pedersen each had two points in the game.  In game two, the Nittany Lions got out to an early 2-0 lead.  Vanessa Upson scored to make it 2-1, but the Nittany Lions scored late in the third to make it 3-1.  The Nittany Lions took game two and the Lakers settled for a series split.  Ena Nystrøm stopped 44 shots in the game.   

  1. Stats Leaders 

Sara Boucher leads the team in goals with eight and is tied for the team lead in points with 18.  Sydney Pedersen leads the team in assists with 14 and is tied for the team lead in points with 18.  Pedersen also leads the team in blocked shots with 34.  Thea Johansson and Sofia Nuutinen are tied for second on the team in points with 12.  Ena Nystrøm is 6-10-1 with a .917 save percentage, 2.63 goals allowed average, 500 saves, and four shutouts.   

  1. CHA Honors 

Sydney Pedersen earned her second CHA Defender of the Week honor for her performance against Penn State.  Pedersen also added a Defender of the Month honor for the month of November.  This is Pedersen's second CHA monthly honor.  Ena Nystrøm earned her second CHA Goaltender of the Week honor for her performance against Penn State.   

  1. A Look at the Opponent 

The Lions are 7-8-1 on the season and 2-3-1 in the CHA.  The Lions are currently on a two-game winning streak after a series win over Stonehill College.  Morgan Neitzke leads the Lions in goals with 16 and points with 25.  Neitzke is also tied with Sarah Davies and Rachael Goff for the team lead in assists with nine.  Natalie Ferenc is 5-6-0 with a .881 save percentage, 4.54 goals allowed average, and 391 saves.
