11/30/2023 11:30:00 AM

Buffalo, N.Y. — The Lakers are getting back into conference play with another home and home, facing Canisius this time. A trip to Buffalo is slated to start the series on Friday and the return game in Erie is scheduled to be played on Saturday.

Matchup History
The two teams have been playing each other since the 1994/95 season. Mercyhurst has been able to get a slight edge over the Golden Griffins, going 45-40-11 all-time. In their previous meeting, Canisius made a visit to Erie and swept the Lakers at home, including a 2-0 shutout. But, the last time Mercyhurst took a trip out to Buffalo, two seasons ago, they ended up sweeping Canisius in their own home, outscoring them 5-2 on the weekend with a double overtime winner.

Recap
Last weekend was the first home and home series for the Lakers of the year, in a non-conference matchup against Miami University of Ohio. The teams would go on to split the series, each grabbing a win in the opposition's home. Mercyhurst took game one in Ohio due to heroics on the offensive end and in goal. Keanan Stewart tied the game with 9 minutes left to play and then Philip Waugh sunk the OT winner, his second of the season. Owen Say made 7 saves in 3 minutes in OT to give the Lakers a chance at victory. Game two took place and Erie and Miami came back with a vengeance, shutting out Mercyhurst 2-0.

Stats Leaders
Philip Waugh, Dustin Geregach and Boris Skalos all lead the team in points on the season so far with 9.
