Findlay, Oh. - Mercyhurst wrestling traveled to Findlay, Oh. for the Findlay Open to round out the month of November. The team sent several wrestlers onto the mats in the event with many putting together solid efforts, giving the Lakers some momentum here in the early part of the season.
How it Happened
The reigning PSAC Wrestler of the Week, Dillon Walker, ended up working his way through the 165 bracket and claiming first place. He began with an 8-0 major decision before a tight, 4-1 decision over Ohio's Liam Harris. Walker continued his strong day with a tech fall and a decision over Nicholas Moreno of Gannon, 10-3. The Cincinnati, Oh.native was faced with Carter Chase of Ohio State in the title match with Walker able to grab the sudden victory, 4-1 to claim the top spot.
Max Stedeford ended up with a podium finish, coming in third in the 157 bracket with the Laker coming away with four of wins on the day. He began with a pair of tech falls, defeating Eran Marx of Grand Valley State 16-0 before a 15-0 final of West Liberty's Tyler Beckley and a tight, 14-13 decision in the third place bout.Â
Chase Stein finished in eighth place at 174 with him coming away with a trio of wins on the day as well. He began with a pinfall while following that up a one-point, 9-8 decision over West Liberty's Reagan Pearson followed by a forfeit in his final bout. Jake Niffenegger finished in eighth at 141 with him coming way with four wins on the day. It was a lot of lopsided scores for the reigning PSAC Freshman of the Year with three major decisions and a tech falls on his ledger.
Nate Knowlton and Vincent Scaramuzzino both had strong days as well with the pairing having three wins apiece. Knowlton competed at 133, starting off strong with a pinfall win over Alex Cummings of Notre Dame (Oh.). He then followed that up with a pair of tech fall wins before falling in the fourth round of the consolation bracket. Scaramuzzino had two pin falls on his line on the day as he began with one over Indiana Tech's Blaine Kuasta. He then got his second in his third bout before getting a win via the decision for his third win, 12-9.

Mercyhurst takes some time off before their next matchup as they do not wrestle again in the month of November. The team makes the trip to Painesville, Oh. next as they are set to compete in the Lake Erie Tai Meet on Saturday, December 2nd, beginning at noon.
