Cleveland, Oh. - Mercyhurst rounded out their first week of action in the 2023-24 season with the Ohio Intercollegiate Open, hosted by Case Western, Sunday, November 12th. The team had a solid showing in the open and hope to use their wins as a momentum boost as they go deeper into the season.
How it Happened
Nolan Shaffer competed at 149 for the Lakers, coming away with one win in his opening round matchup with Austin Bourgeois by a 17-9 major decision. He then dropped his next two with a major decision and a forfeit to end his day. Mike Zacur took the mat unattached and ended up winning one while dropping two.
Edwin Mooney got in on the action as well with one win to his line. He fell to consolation bracket after a defeat in his opening round before a 7-0 forfeit in round two, helping him to a third match. Jazz Spaulding had similar results to Mooney with pairing also picking up one win apiece with Spaulding's being a 13-6 decision.Â
