Princeton, NJ. - Coming off a game one loss, the Mercyhurst Women's Ice Hockey team looked for a series split against #14 Princeton. The Tigers led from start to finish in a 5-1 win over the Lakers.
How it Happened
The Tigers got on the board early with a goal just 3:28 into the game. Off the face-off, the Lakers put the pressure on the Tigers with multiple shots on goal. Makayla Javier and Olivia Cvar put shots on goal but couldn't get anything to go. Both sides traded shots and saves for the rest of the first period, and the Tigers took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Just a minute into the second period, the Tigers extended their lead to 2-0. At the 7:24 mark of the period, the Tigers added another to extend their lead to 3-0. Two minutes later, the Tigers took a 4-0 lead. At the 11:06 mark of the period, the Lakers finally got on the board. Megan McKay scored her first goal of the season. Sofia Nuutinen added an assist on the goal. Late in the period the Lakers kept applying pressure with shots on goal as Sofia Nuutinen and Riley Johnson both took a shot at the net, followed by Sydney Pedersen and Megan McKay. The Tigers held a 4-1 lead at the end of the second period.
The third period started with Ena Nystrøm making several saves to keep the Tigers from putting up another goal. The Lakers kept trying to cut into the Tigers lead but couldn't get any of their shots to go. The Tigers added another goal just past the midway point of the third period to extend their lead to 5-1. The Lakers couldn't get on the board again and the Tigers came away with a 5-1 win.

Sofia Nuutinen tallied her sixth assist of the season. Nuutinen now has a point in back-to-back games.
Erika Lind and Ena Nystrøm both stopped 15 shots each in the loss.
