Huskies Grabs Game Two for a Series Split With Lakers

Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst Women's Hockey team hosted St. Cloud for game two of their weekend series with the Huskies. A late first period goal for the Huskies was all that was need as St. Cloud came away with the win 1-0.

How it Happened

St. Cloud came out flying on this Saturday afternoon putting up nine early shots on goal.  After a tripping penalty by the Lakers, St. Cloud had the advantage looking to strike first.  St. Cloud had a few looks, but Ena Nystrom flashed the leather in the crease.  The Lakers took two penalties near the end of the period that gave St. Cloud a 5 on 3.  St. Cloud took advantage of the powerplay and got on the board first, as Emma Gentry scored third goal of the season for St. Cloud.

St. Cloud kept the pressure on early in the second period as they kept firing shots on net.  The Laker defense was doing everything they could to block shots and keep the pressure of Ena Nystrom in goal.  St. Cloud had a great opportunity to add on, but Ena Nystrom got a pad on it.  A late penalty on the Lakers will give St. Cloud the advantage to start the third period.

The Lakers did everything they could to get that one goal back. On the opportunities that St. Cloud had to extend their lead, everyone on the ice was throwing their body in front of the puck. Sara Boucher had a couple of cracks at beating the goaltender but couldn't get them by her. The Lakers kept putting shots on goal in the third period but with no success in finding a goal.

Highlights

Ena Nystrom finished the game with 36 saves.

Vanessa Upson won 18 face-offs and Kylee Mahoney won 12.

Sydney Pedersen and Sara Boucher each blocked four shots.
