Women's Soccer Settles For 2-2 Tie with UPJ

Johnstown, PA-The Lakers hit the road to begin their last week of regular season play today and came away with a tie. With the 2-2 tie, Mercyhurst brings their record to 13-2-1 overall and 12-1-1 in conference play.

How it Happened:

After an earlier conversion was wiped off the board due to an offsides call, the Lakers found their way back to the net later in the half to earn a 1-0 lead. Karah Van Horn found Corinne Morgan in front of the UPJ net for an early goal. After striking the post on her first attempt, Morgan beat two defenders to clean up the miss with a tap in. The Lakers went into halftime with a one goal lead.

The Lakers were active in the first half of the game launching 12 shots, while only allowing four.

Mercyhurst added another goal early in the second half off another great feed from Karah Van Horn. Drawing the opposing goalie, Van Horn found Teagan Mehalko who was left with a wide-open net.

The 2-0 lead didn't last long. Lydia Roman got UPJ on the board with a blast into the corner of the net. With some stellar defensive plays down the stretch, it looked like the Lakers were going to hold on to the 2-1 lead, until Sophia Lamesta tied the game at 2 with just over a minute left to play. The game remained a tie at the horn.

Highlights:

Corinne Morgan's solid Freshman year continued today, finding the net yet again. She now has eight goals on the year to go along with seven assists. Teagan Mehalko scored her third goal of the season, while Karah Van Horn picked up her 10th assist on the year.

Next Up:

Mercyhurst now has two games remaining before the beginning of the post-season. On Tuesday, October 31st, the Lakers will welcome Edinboro University to Saxon Stadium. In their first matchup, the Lakers escaped with a 1-0 win after rallying late. The Lakers will finish on the road on Friday, November 3rd, with a match against Cal. U. The top 4 teams in both the East and the West will then square off in the Conference quarterfinals, scheduled for November 6th.
