Boucher's Hat-Trick, Pedersen's Four Assists, Lead Lakers Past Colonials

Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst Women's Ice Hockey team opened CHA play tonight as they welcomed in Robert Morris. The Lakers scored four goals in the second period, and four goals in the third period to pull away from the Colonials.  

How it Happened 

The Lakers came out firing early, putting pressure on the Colonials immediately. The Lakers put up 17 shots in the first period. Just before the end of the first period, the Lakers got on the board as Marielle Parks got the scoring started. Assisting on the goal was Sofia Ljung and Sydney Pedersen. After one period of play, the Lakers had a 1-0 lead.  

Just 27 seconds into the second period, the Lakers added another as Sara Boucher notched a goal. Sydney Pedersen and Sofia Nuutinen added assists on the goal. It didn't take the Lakers long to add another as Sara Boucher scored her second goal of the game just five minutes later. The Lakers had a 3-0 lead early in the second period. If you blinked, you missed the Lakers score again. This time it was Chantal Ste-Croix who found the back of the net. Just 6:30 into the second period, and the Lakers had a commanding 4-0 lead. Midway through the second period, the Colonials got on the board to draw a goal closer. It was now 4-1 in favor of the Lakers. Just before the end of the second period, Chantal Ste-Croix found the back of the net for the second time in the period to make it 5-1. 

Early in the third period, the Colonials cut into the Laker lead with a goal of their own, making it 5-2. After a few minutes of play went by, Olivia Cvar her first of the season to make it 6-2. Jade Maisonneuve and Sydney Wegner tallied assists on the goal. Just a minute later, Sara Boucher found the back of the net for the third time in the game, making it 7-2. Another minute of play went by, and Thea Johansson got into the scoring party. Johansson extended the lead to 8-2 in favor of the Lakers. As the game came to an end, the Lakers added one more as Marielle Parks scored her second of the game to make it 9-2.      

Highlights 

Twelve different Lakers recorded a point in the win.  

Sara Boucher skated in her 100th career game tonight.  

Boucher also notched her seventh career hat-trick in the win.   

Sydney Pedersen extended her points streak to four games with four assists tonight. 

Marielle Parks finished with three points (2 G, 1A) in the win. 

Olivia Cvar scored her first goal of the season while adding her first two assists of the season.  

Chantal Ste-Croix scored her first two goals of the season. 

Sofia Ljung and Sofia Nuutinen each had two assists in the game.  

Mary Sweetapple tallied her first two points of the season with two assists tonight.  

Sydney Wegner tallied her first point of the season with an assist.  

Megan McKay, Jade Maisonneuve, and Kylee Mahoney each had an assist. 

Thea Johansson scored her sixth goal of the season, which tied her for first on the team with Sara Boucher and Marielle Parks.  

Ena Nystrom finished the game with 22 saves, bringing her season total to 318.vv
