Men's Soccer Scores Late to Grab Tie with Gannon

Erie, Pa. - The #19 Mercyhurst Men's Soccer team played host to crosstown rival #10 Gannon in a top 25 matchup under the lights of Saxon Stadium. Down 3-2 late in the second half, the Lakers tied it up with ten minutes left of play to come away with a 3-3 tie.  

How it Happened 

The game started as expected, a lot of back and forth from both sides. Gannon jumped out to a 1-0 lead just before the midway point in the first half.  The Golden Knights looked to add on off a free kick, but Jamie Tedaldi got a hand on it and knocked it away. At the 26-minute mark, the Golden Knights extended their lead to 2-0 on a shot from just inside the box. Just before halftime, the Lakers got on the board. Andreas Rossak beat the goaltender on the bottom left corner for a goal. Jorge Tallada Torres added an assist on the goal. After 45 minutes of play, the Golden Knights led the Lakers 2-1.  

In the 57th minute, Gannon extended their lead to 3-1 on a goal that just got in the right side of the net. The Lakers had a number of opportunities to cut into the Golden Knight lead but could convert them. The score stayed 3-1 in favor of the Golden Knights. A few minutes later, the Lakers finally converted. A throw in by Philipp Strube hit Ignacio Gallego perfectly in stride and Gallego beat the goaltender to make it 3-2. In the late stages of the second half the Lakers tied it up. Ignacio Gallego found a cutting Jorge Tallada Torres in front of the net and Tallada Torres went lower left for the goal.  of the game, each with an opportunity to win it but neither could convert their opportunities. The game ended in a 3-3 tie.    

Highlights 

Andreas Rossak scored his sixth goal of the season. 

Ignacio Gallego scored his sixth goal of the season, while tallying his first assist of the season. 

Jorge Tallada Torres scored his fifth goal of the season, while tallying his third assist of the season.  

Philipp Strube tallied his second assist of the season.  

Next Up 

The Lakers will return to action on Saturday as they host Seton Hill in a PSAC matchup on the Mercyhurst Soccer Field at 1 PM.
