Women's Soccer Enters Big Week of Play

10/17/2023 10:30:00 AM

The Mercyhurst Women's Soccer Team takes their 12-1 record into a new week as they prepare for Slippery Rock on Wednesday, October 18th, and Gannon University on Saturday, October 21st. Now entering the back end of their schedule, this becomes a key week for the Lakers.

Since losing to the Lakers earlier in the season, the Rock has put together some quality wins. Slippery Rock holds an 8-3-2 record and are currently on a three-game winning streak. Led by Morgan Sarver and Sydney Patrick, the Slippery Rock offense has scored eight goals in the last three games. The offense will be tested in Wednesday's matchup as they square up with Lakers' strong defensive front. In the first matchup, the Lakers held the Rock scoreless.

On Saturday, things won't get any easier for Mercyhurst as they battle their cross-town rivals for the second time this season. In what was a physical and emotional match at Gannon, more of the same is expected as the Lakers play host. Gannon hasn't lost a game since dropping their match to Mercyhurst the first time around, and the team currently holds a 10-2-1 record. In such a high-profile game late in the season, the Lakers will rely on their deep offensive attack to constantly put pressure on the Golden Knights.

Mercyhurst is averaging over 14 shots per game, and they often come from a wide variety of players. Leading goal scorers for the Lakers are Karah Van Horn (7), Camille Bultel (6), and Corinne Morgan (5). Madison Hoover has also filled the stat sheet with four goals and five assists on the year.

The Lakers will lean on their defensive all-stars in Taryn Baxter and Maddie Elbro, as they look for a couple more shutouts.

Wednesday's game against Slippery Rock is in Slippery Rock, PA and is slated for 4:00 PM. The Lakers will then host Gannon on Saturday night, with the kick scheduled for 7:30 PM.
