Huge Win in the Books for Men's Hockey

ERIE, Pa. - The Lakers took down the Yellow Jackets tonight, Jan. 20, 2023, in the Mercyhurst Ice Center. 

Mercyhurst downed the 2022 AHA Champions, 4-1. 
 

How it Happened

First Period

Paul Maust found the opening, dumped his first puck into the net this season, and scored the first goal of the game. Dustin Geregach and Cade Townend assisted at a time of 16:27.

With the period wrapping up, Gueorgui Feduolov capitalized on a five-minute major to score goal two. The time of the goal was 18:47 and Steven Agriogianis and Eric Esposito grabbed the apples.

Second Period

The Yellow Jackets were able to find the net at 12:42 on a power play.

Third Period

Esposito earned his second point of the night, this time a tip-in power play goal at 3:21. Feduolov and Agriogianis had the assists.

Keanan Stewart secured the win with an empty netter at 17:30. Agriogianis dove to the puck for the assist.

Playoff Picture

With this win the Lakers now have 24 points in the AHA, staying in fourth place. A full sweep against AIC will put them two points behind the Yellow Jackets. 

The top eight teams make it to the playoffs, with the four highest seeds hosting all three rounds. The quarter and semi-final rounds are best of three with the championship being a single game.
