ERIE, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Wrestling team prepares to take on cross-town rival Gannon on Friday night. The No. 18 Lakers look to upset the No. 14 Golden Knights.
Last Time Out
The Lakers went 1-3 at the NWCA National Duals picking up another win against No. 17 Ashland.
Eric Bartos collected his 100
th career win at the duals while going 4-0 on the weekend.
Luke McGonigal went 2-1 earning a huge win over No. 5 Dominic Murphy of St. Cloud State while
Hunter Harnish took down the sixth ranked grappler at 285, Steven Hajas.
Scouting the Golden Knights
Gannon comes in with 3-4 dual meet record giving them a 14
th ranking in the latest NWCA Division II rankings. The Golden Knights also competed at the NWCA National Duals last weekend going 2-3. Gannon currently has six grapplers ranking in The Open Mat polls.
Highlight Bouts
At 174,
Dillon Walker looks to down Joey Petrella. Last season, the freshman went 2-1 against Petralla. Walker took the first meeting at Mercyhurst in a 2-1 sudden victory decision. At Super Regionals, Petralla bested Walker 3-1 in another overtime bout. Walker took the season series winning a 2-0 decision at the NCAA tournament.
Luke McGonigal also has a tough match ahead of him as he takes on Joel Leise. McGonigal is currently ranked seventh in The Open Mat polls with Leise ranked fifth. Both matmen have earned All-American honors in their careers.
Bartos looks to improve upon his already great season. The senior has gone 17-2 on the season and earned a No. 2 ranking by The Open Mat at 133.
