Lock Haven, Pa.- After a stellar week on the mats, Eric Bartos earns his first conference award of the 2022-23 season as he was named the PSAC Wrestler of the Week.
Wrestling competed in the NWCA National Duals in Louisville, Ky. this past weekend with the tournament proving to be a good one for Bartos. The senior put on a show in the team's four matches, getting dominant wins in each. The senior and the Lakers began with #1 St. Cloud State in the event with Bartos getting one of the team's wins in the match at 133 via the pinfall. He then finished off day one of the tournament against #13 McKendree with another dominant win as he earned the major decision by a count of 16-3.
Day two proved to be more of the same for Bartos as he grabbed two more wins on the mat. His efforts in the NWCA National Duals did not slow down on Saturday as Bartos had both of his victories come in dominant fashion. The team began day two with #8 Augustana, falling 22-19, but with Bartos getting a tech fall at 133 for one of the team's five wins in the match. He then went on to get his second tech fall of the day in the dominant win over #17 Ashland to round out the tournament.
To this point in the season, Bartos has been one of the best wrestlers in the country, holding a 17-2 record while being ranked the 7th best wrestler in the NCAA DII in 133 per InterMat Wrestling. Bartos has continued to cement himself as one of the best wrestlers in Mercyhurst's history with his dominant senior season. He ended up reaching a major milestone on Friday with him earning the 100th win of his career, becoming just the 12th Laker to reach that feat.
He and the rest of Mercyhurst wrestling get back on the mats this Friday, January 13th, as they are set to make the short trip to Gannon for a matchup with the Golden Knights at 7:00 p.m.
