Women's Soccer Defeats Clarion

Clarion, Pa – Mercyhurst Women's Soccer team won their second game of the season. They defeated Clarion by a score of 1-0.

How it happened
The first half of the ball game saw a lot of back-and-forth action. In the 12th minute of the match a great run by Karah Van Horn created a dangerous situation in front of Clarion's goal. However, the Lakers didn't capitalize as shots taken by Dani Hartman and Lauren Casey were saved.

The Lakers kept applying pressure, doing everything they could take the lead. With 17 minutes on the clock, Mercyhurst had a transition opportunity, but Emily Mijares missed the goal to the left.

A couple minutes later Mijares' no look pass reached Hartman in the penalty box, but her pass was stolen.

Mercyhurst had one more chance to score, Jenna Robnett took a long shot that missed closely. Even though Mercyhurst dominated the first half, took ten shots and didn't allow Clarion a single shot, first half ended with a tie.

The second half started with a lot of physical play. Five minutes in Van Horn beat her defender with a move and took a nice shot, but it missed the goal. In 63rd minute of the game Mijares saw yet another opportunity to score, but the shot was saved by Clarion's goalkeeper.

Mijares finally netted her goal to put the Lakers up in the 70th minute. Madison Hoover took a shot from almost 30 yards out and rang it off the cross bar. Mijares was there to head the ball into the net.

The Lakers held on to their lead and finished the game strong, winning 1-0.
