Men's Soccer Wins Against Ashland

Erie, Pa – After an action-packed match the Mercyhurst Men's Soccer team defeated Ashland University by a score of 4-1.
 
How it happened
Mercyhurst started the game strong. In 10th minute of the match a great team play by the Lakers put them in the lead. A great pass by Nic Münch was used by Guilherme de Lima Cunha, as he scored his first goal in the Lakers uniform.


 
The Lakers didn't stop there. Münch was in the right position off a corner kick, as he scored second goal of the season on a header Dylan Sumner took the corner kick and earned the assist on the play.
 


With a couple minutes left on the clock in the first half, the Lakers struck again. Martin Grzywa took advantage of the fuss in front of Ashland's goal during a corner kick. He cleaned up the mess in front of the net scoring his first goal of the season, giving the Lakers 3-0 lead in the first half.


 
The second half was once again dominated by the Lakers. Münch opened the second half strongly, beating the Ashland's goalkeeper once again. The goal was assisted by Sean Kerrigan.


Ashland kept pushing hard, hoping for at least one goal in the game. They succeeded in 65th minute of the game. Vicente Alonso beat Mattias Odelius, with a nice shot to the left.
 
The Lakers held on to their lead and finished the game with the lead, beating Ashland 4-1.
 
By The Numbers
Mercyhurst controlled the game since the kick-off. The Lakers took as many as 25 shots, and 14 of them were on goal. Ashland only took 11 and 5 of them on target. Odelius had four saves in his first career start for the Lakers..

What's Next
Mercyhurst is scheduled to travel to Syracuse to play Le Moyne College on Wednesday, September 7th. It will be yet another out of conference test for the Lakers. The kick-off is set for 1:00 pm.
