Volleyball Hangs Tough With Edinboro

Edinboro, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Volleyball team fell in straight sets to the Edinboro Fighting Scots on Friday night.

The first set was full of back and forth play as the two teams traded points, after the first 12 points the teams were tied at six. Edinboro built a lead on three straight points before the Lakers took two points back to make it 9-8 Boro.

The two teams traded small runs and the first set was tied once against at 15-15, 16-16, 17-17, and 18-18. The Fighting Scots then scored three straight points to take the lead. Mercyhurst scored three more times in the match but couldn't notch consecutive points and fell 25-21 to open the match.

The second set saw the teams trading points until Edinboro took a five point lead to make it 10-5. With the score 12-7 Boro, the Laker decided to go on a run themselves, taking five straight points to tie it at 12. Each teams once again traded points with neither team scoring more than three points in a run. The Lakers made it close in the end once again but fell 25-21 in the second set.

Similarly to the first two sets, the teams traded points back and forth for the first 20 points. The Lakers trailed 11-8 but went on a run to take the lead and make it 13-11. EU answered by taking the next three points to take the lead back. Mercyhurst responded with two points to take the lead back. From there on the Fighting Scots controlled the set, limiting the Lakers for the rest of the set, Boro took the set 25-19.

Kate Hennessy led the Lakers in kills as she had nine while Paige Miller had eight kills to improve her team lead to 111. Miller led the team in aces with four while Zoe Gadomski had two on the night. Gadomski also had 12 digs while Miller and Alexa Mitchell had 10 apiece. Mitchell also tallied 19 assists for the second time this season, it was her seventh game with more than 15 assists.

The Lakers are back in action next Friday as they travel to Cal (PA) to take on the Vulcans.
