Clarion, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Volleyball team opened PSAC West play on Tuesday evening as they fell in straight sets to Clarion.
How it Happened
In the opening set the Golden Eagles and Lakers kept it close through the first 18 points. Clarion was the first to reach double digits as they went on run and made it 15-9. The Lakers only notched three more points throughout the first set. Paige Miller earned the first two points for the Lakers with kills.
Similar to the first set, the second set started just like the first set as team traded points. After 22 points Clarion led 12-10 after the Lakers were the first team to hit double digits. The Golden Eagles once again went on an extended run as they made it 22-10 until the Lakers tallied another point. The Lakers tried to battle back but could claw back.
The third set was not different from the first two sets as the two teams traded points back and forth. The teams traded points and after 40 points it was 20-20, the Lakers scored just twice more and the Golden Eagles took advantage and won the set 25-22.
By the Numbers
Miller led the Lakers with eight kills while Corinne Bechtold had four and Kate Hennesy tallied three. Alexa Mitchell led the team with six assists while Alia Mastromatteo tallied four assists. Miller and Mastromatteo each dug five balls while Zoe Gadomski dug out four.
