Women's Soccer Wins First Home Game of the Season

Erie, Pa – The Mercyhurst Women's Soccer team won their first home game against Edinboro, by a score of 3-1.
 
 
How it happened
The Lakers applied pressure straight from the kick-off. In 13th minute of the game Mercyhurst had a corner kick, taken by Amber Thomas. The ball flew right to Dani Hartman, who used that opportunity to score the goal with a header.
 
 
In the 20th minute of the game Karah Van Horn got the ball, made a move to the left to juke the Edinboro's goalkeeper, and scored. The goal was assisted by Thomas for her second assist of the game.
 
Mercyhurst finished the first half strong as they added one more tally to the scoreboard before the first half came to a close. Emily Mijares found the back of the net for her first goal of the season.
 
The second half saw a lot of back-and-forth action. In 77th minute of the game Reece Enochs found a gap in Mercyhurst defense and scored the lone Edinboro goal of the game.
 
Edinboro had one more chance to score in the game. After a foul by the Lakers, Haydn Paxton took a penalty kick. Maddie Elbro didn't allow the opportunity to be converted with her saving a pair of shots. The final few minutes of the contest were quiet with things finishing 3-1.

By the Numbers
The Lakers took 12 shots and six shots on target, whereas Edinboro only took eight. The Lakers drew six corner kicks, and many of them turned into scoring situations. The game was very clean, as both teams only committed seven fouls combined. Elbro made five saves and saved her first penalty kick of the season.
 
What's Next
This Saturday, September 3rd , the Lakers are set to travel to Clarion. The game is scheduled for 7 PM.
