Erie, Pa – Mercyhurst Men's Soccer team defeated Lock Haven by a score of 1-0. The Lakers won their third game in a row making it their best start of the season since 2011.
How It Happened
The first half of the game saw a lot of physical play from both teams. In the 10
th minute of the match
Nic Münch danced through Lock Haven's defenders and got fouled in the penalty box.
Sean Kerrigan used that opportunity to score a penalty kick, for his fifth goal of this season.
The Lakers drew as many as four corners in the first half alone. They created a couple of good situations under opponent's goal but couldn't capitalize. Lock Haven didn't create many scoring situations, so Mercyhurst went into the halftime with 1-0 lead.
The second half was full of back-and-forth play. Lock Haven was determined to tie the game, often fouling and playing a physical brand of soccer. Axel Aronnson and
Ryan Lieser were a key on defensive side for the Lakers, kicking and stealing the ball multiple times.
With 10 minutes left on the clock,
Jonathan Gomes received a red card, and got replaced in goal by
Mattias Odelius. It was his first-time taking field this season.
Lock Haven kept their intensity high to finish the game. However, they were unable to score, which gave the Lakers their third win this season.

The Lakers took nine shots and six shots on target, whereas Lock Haven only took one shot on the goal. The Lakers drew six corner kicks, and many of them turned into scoring situations. The game was very physical, as both teams committed 27 fouls combined. Moreover, the Lakers had two yellow cards, and one red card. It was Mercyhurst's second game in the row without allowing a single goal.
