Men's Soccer Secures First Clean Sheet of Season

Lakewood, N.J. – The Mercyhurst Men's Soccer Team won their second game of the season against Georgian Court University by a score of 4-0.

How it happened

Despite rain and harsh weather conditions the game was full of action. The first couple minutes of the game saw a lot of back-and-forth play. In eighth minute of the game, Axel Aronsson nearly surprised GCU's goalkeeper with a header but the keeper smothered it.

The Lakers kept applying pressure, they had two great situations but were unable to capitalize. Sean Kerrigan actually put the ball in the goal, however the goal was written off because of an earlier foul. A couple minutes later Dylan Sumner challenged the Lions' defense with a nice shot, but GCU's Andres Manzano saved it.

In 28th minute the Lakers effort finally paid off. Jorge Tallada Torres scored the goal, after a great pass by Nic Münch. The Lions had one more chance to score, but the Lakers defense didn't allow it, so that the first half ended with the score 1-0.

The Lakers didn't slow down in the second half. In the 55th minute Sean Kerrigan scored on a penalty kick, for his third goal of the season. With 20 minutes left on the clock midfielder Lockie Fay punished GCU's sloppy defense. He stole the ball and scored, connecting on his first goal in his college career for Mercyhurst.

In the 77th minute Kerrigan scored another goal, with a beautiful free kick for his second of the game and fourth of the season.
