Greensburg, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Baseball team dropped two games to the Seton Hill Griffins on Saturday on the road after splitting at home on Friday.
Game One (L, 7-6)
Following a scoreless opening frame the Griffins scored seven runs in the second inning to jump out to an early lead.
It wasn't until a Matthew Gibson RBI single in the fourth that Lakers responded. Chris Juchno opened the frame with a double and then Gibson singled to left to bring Juchno home. After a Gibson stolen base and two outs Casimer Sobaszek stepped to the plate. He singled to left to bring Gibson home for the second Laker run.
The Mercyhurst bats didn't show much life again until the seventh inning. Troy Banks singled with one out to start a comeback. Jack Elliott followed suit and singled, Banks went first to third on the play. Josh Surowiec stepped to the plate and gave the Lakers a huge step closer to completing the comeback. He blasted his team leading 16th homer to make it a two run game. After Surowiec homered, Luke Jackson drew a walk to start the rally back up. Juchno then singled to put runners on the corners for Philip Ferranti. After hitting three homers on Friday, he delivered once again with a clutch hit, he singled home Jackson to make it one run game. The comeback came up just short as the tying run was stranded on third to end the game.
Daniel Thomas started on the mound and went three innings allowing four hits and seven unearned runs. He struckout five over the three innings.
Hunter Treece took over in the fourth and went three scoreless innings while walking one and allowing just one hit.
Game Two (L, 3-2 (10 Inn.))
The Griffins once again scored in the second inning once again but it was just one run to take the 1-0 lead.
In the fourth the Lakers responded thanks to a Elliott homer to right field. Surowiec opened the frame with a single and came around to score on the play to give the Lakers the lead.
The Lakers were one out away from a win when the Griffins scored on a Laker error in the seventh to send the game to extra innings.
Seton Hill opened the tenth with a double that came around to scored two batters later.
Aiden Kelly started on the mound and went 2.1 innings while allowing just the one run and two hits. Jacob Bazala took over and went 4.2 innings while scattering two hits on one unearned run. He struckout two, while getting seven flyouts.
Robert Hartman went a third of an inning while getting a groundout but hitting two batters. Corbin Foy pitched the last inning and two third allowing three hits and striking out two.
Playoff Picture
Despite losing three of four this weekend the Lakers are still in the a playoff position in the PSAC West with four games remaining. The Lakers are in third in the PSAC West and have the tiebreaker over Cal (PA) who is in fourth. The Lakers take on Slippery Rock next weekend who are one spot ahead of them.
