INDIANAPOLIS, In. – The Mercyhurst Men's Lacrosse team fell in a top-10 matchup to Indianapolis on Saturday afternoon by an 11-8 score. Indianapolis used three late goals from Drew Billig to break away from the Lakers.
Mercyhurst's Ethan Landymore opened up scoring in the contest with a man-up goal at the 11:40 mark of the first quarter. The goal was the only Laker tally of the opening quarter as the Greyhounds went on to finish out the quarter on a 3-0 scoring run.
The Lakers used goals from freshman
Josh Michel and Jérémi Phoenix-Lefebvre to outscore Indianapolis 2-1 in the second 15 minutes of play as the Greyhounds took a one goal advantage with them into the halftime break.
The Lakers took their first lead since the opening goal in the third quarter when two goals from Landymore and one from
Nicholas Mabe made the score 6-5 Mercyhurst with 7:41 remaining in the third. The Greyhounds then ripped off another 3-0 scoring run late in the quarter to go back up 8-6.
Bryce Johnson cut the Laker deficit in half at the 1:44 mark of the third to cap off scoring in the quarter.
Jacob Emerson tied the game back up at 8-8 when he scored for the Lakers three minutes into the final 15 minutes of action, however the Greyhounds used their third 3-0 scoring burst of the game to put away any chances of a Laker comeback.
The Lakers will return to action for what will be their final game of the 2022 regular season next Wednesday on the road at Davis & Elkins.
