PHILIPPI, Wv. – The Mercyhurst Men's Lacrosse team was victorious on Saturday afternoon against GMAC foe Alderson Broaddus by a 22-2 score.
The Lakers would jump out of the starting blocks quickly as the team scored eight unanswered goals in the first 15 minutes of action. Myles Hamm would begin scoring at the 12:39 mark, from which Bryce Johnson would score twice in a row before Todd Redman, Liam Bogedain, Patrick Carrozzi, and freshman Matt Mojsej, and Jackson Saulpaugh all found the back of the twine for the Lakers as they led 8-0 after one quarter of play.
The Lakers continued their impressive defensive performance through the second quarter as they did not allow a first half goal to the Battlers. The Lakers started the quarter with a goal from sophomore
Casey Scott just under six minutes in. Then freshman
Antonio Rossetti scored two goals of his own to put Mercyhurst up 11-0. From there
Josh Michel,
Tim Weisensel, and Scott again all earn scores as Mercyhrust led 14-0 at the halftime break.
The Battlers opened up the second half with their first score of the game on a strike from Maguire Williard just over two minutes into the third quarter. The Lakers
Josh Michel was then able to score his first goal of the contest before Alderson Broaddus scored their only other tally of the game at the 7:54 mark to make the score 15-2. From here the Lakers would finish the game off on a 7-0 scoring run.
Saulpaugh scored his second and Rossetti scored his third goal of the contest before the third quarter horn blew. Then in the fourth, the Lakers would find scores from
Adam Oscarson,
Jared Butler, and Mojsej.
Lucas Hoskin scored his first career goal as a Laker at the 13:21 mark of the fourth quarter as did freshman Kevin Spraugue who found the back of the net with just under five minutes remaining in the game.
The Lakers finished the game outshooting Alderson Broaddus 59-21. They caused 21 Battler turnovers and had 53 ground balls compared to 13 for the Battlers. Mercyhurst dominated from the X, winning 25 of 29 faceoffs with
Charles Greenlese leading the way winning seven of his eight draws taken.
Brett Olney saved four shots in his one half of action.
The Lakers will return to the field next Saturday at the University of Indianapolis with start time scheduled for noon..
