High Scoring Paces No. 6 Men’s Lacrosse Past Roberts Wesleyan

ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Men's Lacrosse team (8-2, 4-0 GMAC) extended their winning streak to seven on Wednesday evening by defeating the Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks (9-2, 5-0 ECC) by a 26-10 score. Ethan Landymore registered seven goals while Bryce Johnson had six assists after recording his 100th career point as a Laker in Saturday's game against Seton Hill. The 26 goals is the most scored by Mercyhurst this season.

The Lakers opened up scoring in the contest three minutes and 38 seconds into the first quarter when Todd Redman struck the twine for his sixth score of the 2022 campaign. The Redhawks would proceed to win the following faceoff and tie the game 12 seconds later, Roberts Wesleyan scored again less than two minutes later to take their only lead of the game at 2-1.

From there the Lakers would start a 4-0 scoring run that would last until the closing seconds of the opening quarter. Landymore would start the run at the 6:55 mark and was followed by scores from Colin Schmatz, Redman, and Landymore again to put the Lakers ahead 5-2. The Redhawks got one back with 15 seconds left in the first quarter before Mercyhurst's Shawn Doran won the ensuing faceoff and took it all the way down for another Lakers tally to put them up 6-3.

In the second quarter, the Lakers dominated, outscoring the Redhawks 8-1 in the quarter. Nicholas Mabe would extend the Laker lead to four less than a minute in, on the man-up opportunity. Mabe scored again shortly after to give the Lakers an 8-3 advantage. The Redhawks scored their only goal of the quarter at the 12:42 mark before the Lakers ripped off a massive 8-0 scoring run that would pull them away from the Redhawks for good.

Myles Hamm began the run scoring back-to-back goals before Landymore did the same. Hamm added his third of the quarter and freshman Josh Michel closed out scoring in the first half with a goal with only eight seconds remaining on the clock. The Lakers would lead at halftime 14-4.

Landymore and Luke Ingianni scored the first two goals in the second half to cap off the massive Laker scoring run. Roberts Wesleyan did manage to score on three separate occasions in the quarter, but it was not enough for the high powered Laker offense who led 19-7 after the third. The Lakers received additional goals from Hamm, Landymore, and Jacob Emerson in the quarter.

In the fourth, the Lakers continued their excellence with six tallies compared to the Redhawks three. Emerson, Hamm, Mabe, Michel, and Antonio Rossetti all scored in the quarter with Rosseti picking up two. The Lakers finished the game outshooting the Redhawks 40-23, and forced 12 turnovers including two each by Liam Bogedain, Gavin Ingalls, and Michel. Brett Olney finished the game with 13 saves in net for Mercyhurst.

Next up, the Lakers will travel to Alderson Broaddus this Saturday for a GMAC matchup with the Battlers.
