Erie, Pa – The Mercyhurst Men's Lacrosse team cruised to victory on Tuesday evening against the visiting Lake Erie College Storm by a 24-5 margin of victory. Ethan Landymore and Myles Hamm paced the Lakers on offense with six goals each while Liam Bogedain made his presence felt on the defensive side of the ball with six caused turnovers.
How It Happened
The Lakers began the game on a 10-0 scoring run that spanned halfway into the second lasting over 20 minutes of gametime. In the stretch, the Lakers received five goals from Hamm, two goals from Landymore, two goals from Bryce Johnson, and a goal from Colin Schmatz.
The Storm scored their first of two goals in the contest's opening half with 9:55 remaining in the second quarter when Blain Wallace found the back of the net. The Lakers responded by scoring four goals of their own courtesy of strikes from Jacob Emerson, Casey Scott, and two more for Landymore. After a Lake Erie goal to make the score 14-2 Lakers, Timothy McMullen scored his second goal of the season with one second remaining in the second quarter to extend the Laker lead to 13 at the halftime break.
The second half proved to be similar to the first as the Lakers outscored the Storm 10-3. Landymore and Hamm combined for the first three Laker goals of the half. The Mercyhurst freshman then began to take over as the Lakers received goals from rookies
Tim Weisensel,
Jackson Saulpaugh,
Matt Mojsej,
Josh Michel, and
Antonio Rossetti. Lake Erie's Jackman Schooley capped off scoring in the contest at the 6:25 mark in the fourth quarter.
Brett Olney started his sixth game of the year in net for the Lakers, he made four saves in three quarters of action. Face-off Specialist
Shawn Doran had himself another impressive night by winning 75% (15-20) of his chances from the X. Doran also led the Lakers with a game-high nine ground balls. Johnson finished the game with three assists while
Braden McCard added two more for Mercyhurst.
The Lakers will be back in action this Saturday when they make the trip to Philadelphia to battle it out with Chestnut Hill College, start time is slated for noon.
