Men's Lacrosse Dominates Wheeling For First GMAC Win

Erie, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Men's Lacrosse team earned their first GMAC win of the season with a dominating 20-8 win over the Wheeling Cardinals at Saxon Stadium.

Mercyhurst jumped out to an early 9-0 lead in the first quarter as the Lakers outshot Wheeling 15-1 while seven different Lakers netted goals in the opening 15 minutes. Ethan Landymore scored three times in the first quarter and would add four more by the end of the game.

In the second quarter the Lakers scored four more while Wheeling netted their first goal of the game. At halftime the score was 13-1. In the second, Tim Weisensel scored his first career goal while Landymore added three more of his own.

The third consisted of Wheeling netting three goals while the Lakers scored four more. Myles Hamm scored twice, Landymore scored once, and Stephen Morley added his first career goal.

In the final quarter the Lakers were outscored while Jackson Saulpaugh, Timothy McMullen and Adam Oscarson each scored for Mercyhurst. For Saulpaugh it was his first career goal as a Laker.

Brett Olney needed to make just two saves to earn the win as he played the first half. Brendan Eyestone made four saves in just under 21 minutes of work in the cage while Tim Williams closed out the game in net for the Lakers.

Mercyhurst was 23-9 in faceoffs while Wheeling turned the ball over 27 times. The Lakers also collected 39 groundballs compared to just 21 from Wheeling. Mercyhurst dominated the transition game going 11 for 13 in clears while Wheeling was 10 of 25.

The Lakers host Lake Erie on Tuesday for their second GMAC game, game time is set for 7:00 PM at Saxon Stadium.
