Erie, Pa. – This Wednesday, the Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team has their first PSAC conference match-up of the season against Slippery Rock. The game will begin at 4:00 p.m. here at Saxon Stadium in Erie.
Last Time Out
Last Wednesday, the Lakers pulled off an impressive 15-9 win over Walsh. Victoria Gottorff led the team in scoring with four goals, followed by Molly Meegan, Maggie Newton, and Amanda Bailey. Goalie Kaitlyn Lippert had nine saves on 18 shots from the Walsh offense.
Their game against Roberts Wesleyan set for Saturday was postponed to April 12th, 2022 due to inclement weather.
Scouting Slippery Rock
The Rock has had an impressive non-conference start to their season as they are 3-1. Their one loss was against Limestone University by three goals. Emily Benham and Jamie DiCarlo are the leading scorers for the season, with nine goals for Benham and eight for DiCarlo.
Gillian O'Rourke is back in goal this year for The Rock. She finished last year with a .454 save percentage with 122 total saves. She is third in their program history in save percentage.
Against The Rock
The Lakers have had a dominant run over Slippery Rock the past 12 years. They have won 13 times and only lost once on the road. The last time they faced off was April 2021, and the Lakers won 13-11.
Fantastic Freshmen
The rookies have been a key part to the offensive strategy for the Lakers this season. Overall, the freshmen have accounted for 17 of the teams 52 goals scored so far this season. Newton has been a big part of that number as she leads the teams with 12 goals through her first four colligiate games played.

The Lakers will stay at home next week for a pair of games both to be played on Saxon Stadium, first they will take host Seton Hill on Tuesday followed by a Saturday afternoon date with Lock Haven.
