SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team fell to Le Moyne in an 18-1 defeat on Wednesday at Ted Grant Field.
The first quarter began with Le Moyne taking control early. The Green and Blue's defense faced pressure, with
Maggie Allen making a critical save  at 6:53. Despite this, the team struggled to maintain possession and capitalize on opportunities.
Whitley Easton's efforts to break through were thwarted. The quarter closed with the Lakers trailing 7-0, as Le Moyne built a substantial lead.
Le Moyne expanded its lead early in the second quarter with a goal at 14:19, followed by another from Maddi Barney. Despite a caused turnover by the Dolphins, the Lakers struggled to capitalize on the opportunities presented, including a failed clear attempt and a key save on
Whitley Easton's free position shot. The Lakers' defense managed a few ground ball pickups, notably by
Allison Lyon and
Hadley Warren, but the team was unable to break through offensively. The quarter concluded with the Lakers trailing 11-0.
The Lakers' third-quarter highlight came with a player-up goal by
Natalie Wilson, assisted by
Whitley Easton at 4:13. Despite this effort, Le Moyne responded quickly with a goal from Sophie Klein at 3:14 and extended its lead further with a free position goal by Melayna Miller at 1:31. The quarter concluded with the Lakers trailing.
The Lakers struggled to gain offensive momentum in the fourth quarter, as turnovers interrupted its efforts to close the scoring gap. Despite successful clears, including those at 13:53 and 7:09, the team could not convert these opportunities into goals. The Dolphins capitalized on their possessions, scoring five goals in the quarter to maintain control of the game.Â
Wilson scored the lone goal for the Lakers, converting one of her only shots into a player-up goal. Easton contributed to the offense with an assist, while also leading the team with six shots, five of which were on target. On the defensive end, Allen posted three saves, facing a total of 21 shots throughout the match. Callander was noted for her defensive efforts.
The Lakers will return home after a month long hiatus on the road to host Stonehill Saturday, March 28.
