Women's Lacrosse Outlasted by Stonehill

ERIE, Pa. — The Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team (1-8, 1-3) fell to Stonehill (6-6, 3-1) in a decisive 23–8 contest on Saturday at Saxon Stadium. Despite the loss, the Lakers saw contributions from multiple players, including six assists across their eight goals.

The game opened with the Lakers facing an early challenge as Stonehill took control with three consecutive goals, including Grace Murphy's player-down score at 12:58. Despite the deficit, the Lakers responded when Emma Cimino found the back of the net at 5:21, assisted by Katie Gleason. In the closing minutes, Whitley Easton scored at 1:32, with an assist from Camryn Trybuskiewicz, narrowing Stonehill's lead. The first quarter concluded with Stonehill ahead 4–2.

Stonehill took control early in the second quarter with Grace Murphy scoring at 14:30, quickly followed by Taylor Green's player-up goal just over a minute later. Despite being down, the Lakers responded after a timeout, with Katie Gleason scoring her first goal of the season at 11:22, assisted by Brynn Hall. Whitley Easton added another at 10:09 to close the gap to 7–4. The Skyhawks, however, maintained their offensive momentum with subsequent goals widening their lead. Despite attempts by Cimino and Easton in the final minutes, Stonehill's defense held firm, ending the quarter with a 13–4 advantage.

The Lakers opened the third quarter with a goal by Cimino at 14:19, marking her 16th of the season. Despite this early momentum, Stonehill responded with a series of goals, including a player-up score at 10:14. The Skyhawks continued to extend their lead with two more goals while the Lakers faced challenges maintaining possession despite caused turnovers by Payton Platz and Katie Ventresca. The quarter concluded with Stonehill leading 18–5.

The Lakers opened the fourth quarter with a turnover but quickly regained momentum with a goal by Trybuskiewicz at 12:11, assisted by Easton. This was followed by another successful strike from Cimino at 10:35, again assisted by Easton, narrowing the deficit. Despite a strong start, the team's defense faced challenges as Stonehill answered with three consecutive goals, widening their lead. Maggie Sheehan managed to find the net for the Lakers at 7:21, providing a brief spark. However, Stonehill's offensive push solidified its control over the quarter. With the game concluding at a final score of Stonehill 23–8, the Lakers' efforts were not enough to overcome the deficit.

Cimino led the scoring for the Lakers with three goals. Easton contributed significantly with two goals and added three assists, showcasing her playmaking abilities. Trybuskiewicz provided balanced support by scoring one goal and assisting on another in the game. Gleason added to the offensive efforts with one goal, while also recording an assist.

The Lakers will return home April 4 as they host Wagner.
