Fort Nutter, W.Va.—The Mercyhurst Baseball team saw their four game winning streak come to an end today against the Concord Mountain Cats by a score of 5-3.
Daniel Thomas got the ball for the Lakers and cruised through the first two innings, striking out three and allowing just one hit.
In the third inning, Concord pieced together back-to-back one out hits to put runners on first and second. Thomas got a popout for the second out but could not strand the runners. The Lakers had some miscommunication in the outfield and Concord notched an inside the park home run to make it 3-0.
Mercyhurst scored their first run of the game as John Susnik drove in Jack Elliott in who started the inning with a walk.
Jacob Bazala took the ball in the bottom of the fifth inning and had two perfect innings before giving up a homer and a single in the seventh to make it 4-1 Concord.
In the top of the eighth Troy Banks drove in Casimer Sobaszek after he drew a one out walk and was moved to second on a Josh Surowiec single. Banks doubled and drove in his seventh run of the season on his second double of the young.
The Lakers made their third pitching change of the game when Aiden Kelly took over and was met with a rude welcome as he game up a home run to make it 5-2 Concord. Kelly settled in and got back-to-back strikeouts and a groundout to close out the inning.
Knowing it was their last chance in the ninth, Susnik drew a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Brandon Arnold singled and forced an error by the third baseman that allowed Susnik to score to make it two run game. The comeback effort came up just short in the end.
The Lakers are scheduled to play their final of eight road games to open the season tomorrow as they face Salem at 1:00 PM
