Emily Shopene Scores 1,000th Point As Lakers Fall to Slippery Rock in Season Finale

Erie, Pa.—In their final game of the 2021-22 season the Mercyhurst Women's Basketball team fell to Slippery Rock by a final score of 67-65.

Quick Facts

Julia Buchman led the Lakers on the offensive side and tallied 22 points while shooting 9-12 from the field. She also hit four of her six three-point attempts.

Three other Lakers scored in double figures as Jayde Boyd capped off her junior season with 14 points and five boards. Boyd finished second on the team in points per games with 12.5. Grace Centrulla led the team with 14.5 point per game and put up ten points in the final game of her redshirt-freshman season.

Thank You, Seniors

Erie native Emily Shopene became the 21st Laker to reach the 1,000 point threshold. She had 13 points in her final collegiate game while collecting a team high nine boards. She also dished out four assists. In her Mercyhurst career Shopene played in 127 games and averaged 7.96 points per games along with 4.8 rebounds.
 

Megan Komendarek played in 120 games as a Laker in her five years on the team. On Saturday she collected four boards and finished her career with 406 rebounds. Last season the Norwich, N.Y. native finished the season averaging just over seven points.

Bright Future

The Lakers finished the season with a 9-19 record overall and a 7-15 overall record. Mercyhurst lost 12 games this season by single digits. The Lakers return all but two players next season.
