Two Regular-Season Games Left for No. 17/21 Men’s Basketball

Erie, Pa.—After a commanding 91-63 win over Edinboro Saturday, the No. 17/21 Mercyhurst Men's Basketball team seeks to lock up the second seed in the PSAC Tournament as they finish their regular-season schedule with a trip to California (Pa.) Wednesday and a home tilt with Slippery Rock Saturday.

The Matchups

The Lakers have won 22 of 31 contests played against Cal. The Vulcans surprised Mercyhurst at home on Jan. 22, delivering them an 87-71 loss.

The Lakers and Rock have had an even past, with the teams looking to break a 29-29 all-time series record Saturday. The Lakers evened the series with a win at Slippery Rock, 73-66, on Jan. 24.

Moving On Up

The Lakers have continued their climb back up the national polls. This week's National Association of Basketball Coaches national poll saw Mercyhurst move up two spots to No. 17. In the Division II Sports Information Directors of America national media poll, the Lakers also climbed two spots, appearing at No. 23.

Chasing History

Steve Cannady is chasing two milestones as the regular season comes to a close and playoffs are on the horizon. He is four games away from having played in 100 college games. He played 30 games at Wheeling in 2018-19 before transferring to Mercyhurst, where he has played a total of 66 games in a Lakers uniform. He is also 42 points away from joining MiyKah McIntosh in the 1,000-point club.

Scouting the Vulcans

Cal currently sits in fourth place in the PSAC after having locked up a spot in the tournament. They are 14-6 in conference play and 19-7 overall after dropping a game to Slippery Rock Monday.

Laker Radio

Jack Angelucci will provide live audio-only coverage of Wednesday's doubleheader at Cal. Coverage will begin at 5:20 p.m., and both games will be available to stream at https://mixlr.com/mercyhurst-athletics.

Scouting The Rock

Slippery Rock sits just below the Vulcans with a 12-8 conference, 16-10 overall record following their win over Cal Monday. They will host Edinboro Wednesday before finishing the regular season in Erie on Saturday.

On the Small Screen Saturday

Mercyhurst University and Lilly Broadcasting are partnering once again to showcase Mercyhurst Men's Basketball, with Saturday's men's game showing on the CW Network (Spectrum: Channel 3 or 1003, Dish Network: Channel 3 or 7048, DirecTV: Channel 36, and 35.2 over-the-air).

Lilly Broadcasting viewers reach the tri-state area with Erie County, Crawford County and Warren County being the primary viewing areas. Fans outside of the televised area will still be able to view the game on the Mercyhurst Sports Network.
