Women’s Water Polo Earns Win on Day Two of Robinette Invite

Erie, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Women's Water Polo team earned a 12-10 win over Mount St. Mary's in their only game on the second day of the Curtis Robinette Memorial Invite.

Interim Head Coach Anna Batcheller earned her second career win, and will wrap up her term with a 2-5 record.

How it Happened

The Mount struck first with a goal 90 seconds into the game, but Mercyhurst answered with six straight goals to take control of the game. Sakura Gavin, Alexa Anderberg and Rachel Vlietstra scored the first three on powerplays.

Hanna Good and Sara Marin scored the next two to close out the first period, while Allie Dombrowski kicked off the second period with a powerplay goal to give the Lakers a 6-1 lead. After The Mount found the cage again, Gavin and Hannah Engquist each scored to give Mercyhurst an 8-2 lead at the half.

Mount St. Mary's began to claw their way back in the second half, outscoring the Lakers 5-3 to cut the lead down to four goals. Marin scored the only Mercyhurst goal in the fourth period while The Mount scored three more to make it a two-goal game.

Mount St. Mary's could not close the gap in the final minutes as the Lakers went on to win 12-10.

Marin and Gavin both finished with three goals, and Gavin added a trio of assists to lead the Lakers with six points in the win.
