Poughkeepsie, N.Y.--Mercyhurst Women's Water Polo team drop two contests at the Marist Invitational to host Marist and Iona.
Against Marist
Marist College jumped out to an early 2-0 lead over the Lakers until Grace Brzyski responded, starting the scoring for Mercyhurst to make it 2-1. Marist and Mercyhurst traded scores, with Sara Marin scoring before the end of the first period to make the score 4-2. Marist then went on a 12-0 run during the second and third period to make the score 16-2. In the final frame the Lakers added one more score from Ava Gebhardt while the Red Foxes added another 6 goals for a final of 22-3.
Against Iona
The Gaels jumped out to an early 5-0 advantage over the Lakers until Marin got her second goal of the day for the lakers to finish the first quarter 5-1. Iona remained in control scoring eight goals in the second and third quarters while the Lakers managed to tally three goals, two from Rachel Vlietstra and another from Hannah Good. Sakura Gavin then struck twice in the fourth quarter while Alexa Anderberg added another for the Lakers, but Iona added six more in the frame for a final score of 19-7.
