MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo – The Mercyhurst women's hockey team skated past Lindenwood on Friday evening by a 6-2 score line. Sara Boucher led the way with her second hat trick in as many weeks while Vanessa Upson dished off three helpers for the Lakers.
The Lakers jumped ahead early scoring four goals in the games opening period. Sara Boucher and Vanessa Upson struck early as both scored in the games first four minutes. Boucher tacked on her second of the game nearly eight minutes after her first score to put Mercyhurst up 3-0. Kristy Pidgeon rounded out the Laker scoring in the period by netting her career-best eleventh goal of the season.
In the second period, Mercyhurst led the Lions in shots 18-13, however Lindenwood did manage to score their lone goal of the contest courtesy of Thea Jorgensen. In the third period, the Lakers managed to extend their lead by scoring two goals in the game's final period.
Sara Boucher rounded off her hat trick at the 4:18 mark, scoring the second Mercyhurst shorthanded goal of the night.
Jordan Mortlock capped off the scoring for the Lakers when the defenseman found the back of the net for the third time this season.
Jenna Silvonen started in between the pipes for Mercyhurst and stopped 26 of the 28 Lindenwood shots on target. The Lakers finished the game with seven different point scores, including
Alexane Rheaume,
Alexandria Weiss, and
Liliane Perreault who all were credited with assists.
The Lakers close out their 2021-22 regular season tomorrow in the series finale with the Lions, opening puck drop is scheduled for one o'clock.
