Erie, Pa.—With impressive performances last week, Women's Basketball's Jayde Boyd and Kyle McClellan of Men's Hockey have been named the latest PPG Paints Student-Athletes of the Week.
Boyd scored 20-plus points for the second time this season during Wednesday's 66-56 loss to RV/RV Gannon. The junior from Pittsburgh led all scorers with 22 points, including making five of her six free throws. She pulled down six rebounds in the effort as well.
Boyd is averaging 11.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game this season, and has started in every game for Mercyhurst. The Lakers will travel to Slippery Rock Wednesday before hosting Edinboro Saturday in a game that will be featured on the CW Network.
McClellan saved 76 shots last weekend against RIT, including posting his second shutout of the season in a 1-0 win Friday night. The sophomore from Manchester, Missouri, had 42 saves in Saturday's 4-2 win against the Tigers, giving him seven games this season with 40 or more saves.
McClellan was named the Atlantic Hockey Association's Goalie of the Week for the third straight week due to his efforts. The Lakers will welcome in AIC for a weekend series Friday and Saturday, with puck drop on Friday scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
