Women's Basketball Dominates Mansfield

Mansfield, Pa – Mercyhurst Women's Basketball dominates Mansfield on the road as they gained a double-digit lead in the second quarter and eventually won by a score of 86-43. The Lakers move on to 7-4 on the year and get their third conference win.

How It Happened

Mercyhurst came out fresh and determined to win after the holiday break, as Grace Centrulla caught fire and scored the first seven points for the team. The Lakers won the first quarter, 13-12, and went on a scoring run in the second.

Bailey Kuhns sprinted the floor with three minutes left on the clock and extended the lead to eight points, 28-20. Nicolette Arnold scored the last points in the half as she made a nice three-pointer with 30 seconds left. Led by Centrulla's 15 points and three long-distance shots, the Lakers went into the break winning by a score of 35-24.

The Lakers kept applying pressure in the third quarter, as freshman Jenna Van Schaik scored six points in a row, making it a 53-25 score in favor of the Lakers. Mercyhurst held on to their lead for the rest of the game as multiple Lakers came on the floor and contributed to the win. 14 Lakers scored during the game and the squad eventually won by a score of 86-43.

By The Numbers

Grace Centrulla led the charge with 18 points on 70% shooting in just 15 minutes of play. She was helped by Nicolette Arnold and Jenna Van Scheik with 10 points each. Centrulla and Sarah Hortin grabbed seven rebounds each while Ava Waid had team-high five assists. Mercyhurst's defense proved to be stout as they forced 22 turnovers while getting a major boost from the reserves with 56 bench points.

The Lakers are scheduled to come home on Wednesday, January 4th, and take on Edinboro at 5:30 p.m.
