Women's Basketball Falls to West Chester

West Chester, PA – Mercyhurst Women's Basketball did not begin their road trip the way they hoped as they fell to West Chester Friday night. The Golden Rams got out in front in the second and third quarters and never looked back, winning the game by a score of 79-67.

How It Happened

The Lakers started the game slow, as the Rams knocked down a few shots early and jumped in the 10-2 lead. Despite early struggles, Mercyhurst's squad caught fire as Lexi Wagner made a three-pointer and Ava Waid followed that with two made layups. The Lakers eventually tied the game, finishing the first quarter with 15-15 on the scoreboard.

The Rams stepped on the gas in the second quarter, as they capitalized on scoring opportunities in the paint. They also used their size to grab multiple offensive rebounds and get second-chance points. After a layup by Jayde Boyd, the Lakers went into the break losing by a score of 39-30.

Mercyhurst came out of the locker room full of energy and determination, as Julia Buchman scored the first points of the second half. However, West Chester went on the nine-point scoring run to help them gain full control, extending their lead to 48-32.

The Lakers tried to answer in the fourth, but the Rams didn't slow down and held the lead for the rest of the game as West Chester won the game by a score of 79-67.

By The Numbers

After making 19 three-pointers in the last match against Roberts Wesleyan, the Lakers knocked down only five in 25 tries this time around. They also gave up 19 offensive rebounds, which the Rams turned into 23 second-chance points. Ava Waid led the charge with 11 points, and she was helped by Danielle Grim and Jayde Boyd with 10 points each. Grim also led the team in rebounds with five, and Julia Buchman recorded team-high four assists.

What's Next

The Lakers are scheduled to take on Millersville in another PSAC matchup tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. before they return home on Thursday, December 8th, for a game against Salem University.
