Millersville, Pa – Mercyhurst Women's Basketball rounded out their weekend with a win to help them split their first pair of PSAC games. The Lakers defeated Millersville on the road Saturday afternoon in a 75-62 win to move to 3-3 on the season.
How It Happened
After falling to West Chester on Friday the Lakers traveled to the Pucillo Gymnasium to take on another PSAC East opponent – Millersville. The Mercyhurst squad started the game slow, as the Marauders built a ten-point lead in the first, but after a couple buckets by Jayde Boyd the Lakers finished the quarter with a four-point deficit, 20-16.
Mercyhurst stepped on the gas in the second, as they tied the game after a long-distance shot by Julia Buchman, 29-29. Boyd drew a couple of fouls and converted them into points at the free throw line. The Lakers went into the break losing by one point, 35-34.
The third quarter was similar, as both teams couldn't build a significant lead to begin. After a couple of minutes of play, the Lakers caught fire as Lexi Wagner knocked down two three-pointers and Paige Woodford helped with one more long-distance jumper. Mercyhurst jumped into the lead and finished the quarter winning by a score of 54-49.
The Marauders came out strong in the fourth, as with five minutes left on the clock the score was tied 57-57. That's when the Lakers went on the final run to finish their opponents. Buchman had a nice driving layup and Woodford followed that with another three-pointer as the Lakers began to pull away. Mercyhurst held on to the lead for the rest of the game and defeated Millersville by a score of 75-62.
By The Numbers
Julia Buchman led the charge for the Lakers with 20 points on 7-14 from the field. She was helped by Jayde Boyd with 19 and Grace Centrulla with 12.
