ERIE, Pa. - The Mercyhurst University Men's Hockey team faced the Sacred Heart University Pioneers tonight, Oct. 4. 
The Pioneers took the game, 3-6

Breaking Down the Game

First Period
A penalty pregame caused the Pioneers to start on a power play. The Lakers eventually killed it, only allowing one shot attempt.Steven Agriogianis found himself taking a faceoff and earning the first of the tilt for the Lakers. 
With 6:03 elapsed in the first, SHU found themselves in the lead with a goal. 
Moments later at a time of 13:14, Eric Esposito sank it to the back of the net for a Laker goal. Kyler Head and Steven Agriogianis tallied the assists.
SHU was determined to take the lead once again, but the Lakers found the back of the net again. This time at 7:19. Mickey Burns was the Laker to score. 
The puck stayed in neutral ice as many shots were taken. 
Wrapping up the first with 37 seconds to go, Kyler Head tallied his second point of the night, this time a goal. Adrien Bisson and Dalton Hunter helped him with the point. 
The Lakers had the lead 3-1 going into the second. 

Second Period
SHU claimed the faceoff to start the second. 
With 5:35 elapsed a Pioneer was sent to the box for hooking. This was the start of a Laker power play, where they took three shots on net. 
At 9:57, Sacred Heart scored. The Pioneers then went on to score two more at 9:47 and 9:36. The score was now 3-4. 
It was an intense period after SHU went on a scoring run. Freshman, Owen Say, defended the net and made 18 saves. 

Third Period
The Lakers entered the third on a power play due to a penalty late in the second. 
Mercyhurst continued to win faceoffs, and SHU had a penalty for a faceoff violation to start another Laker power play. They were able to take three chances at the net. 
With 6:36 elapsed, Garrett Dahm had a blocked shot. 
At 11:44 Sacred Heart found another chance to score. The score was now 3-5.
A penalty on the Lakers at 4:39 allowed the Pioneers to find the back of the net again. The goal time was 3:40. 
Mercyhurst tallied four more shots on net, but could not find a gap. 
 

Notable Stats
Kyler Head lead the team in points with two on the campaign.
Joseph Maziarz was +2.
Philip Waugh found himself two blocked shots.
