Lakers Head to Seton Hill

Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst Football begins to see their season wrap up as they play their next to last game this weekend. The Lakers travel to Greensburg, Pa. to face the Seton Hill Griffins on Saturday, November 5th, at 2:00 p.m. in search of win number three in 2022.

1. Getting the Edge

Mercyhurst hopes to find themselves over .500 against the Griffins after Saturday's game as the two teams are tied at 3-3 all-time in the series. Seton Hill has gotten the better of the matchup in each of the last two games with wins. They have both been close games as the Griffins defeated Mercyhurst inside Saxon Stadium 19-17 last year and 34-33 in 2018 in Greensburg. The Lakers hope to claim their first win on the road in the series since 2013 in the inaugural matchup between the two when Mercyhurst won 50-19.

2. Bring in Barmore

Laker wide receiver Cameron Barmore comes off one of his best performances as a Lakersin last week's loss to Cal (Pa.). The sophomore had season highs in yards (117) and touchdowns (2) while reeling in the longest catch of the season for Mercyhurst on a 59-yard bomb on his way to being named the PPG Athlete of the Week. Barmore has been one of the more reliable receivers for the team this season with the second-most catches on the team and is tied for the team lead in yards while having the most TD receptions at six.

3. Having a Day

Barmore was not the only Laker to have a good outing against the Vulcans as quarterback Brian Alsobrooks also had a phenomenal game. In his first start of the season under center, Alsobrooks went 16-29 for 226 yards and a trio of passing touchdowns all while hitting two of three extra-point tries. Alsobrooks was very careful with the ball as he did not throw an interception in the game for the first instance this season for a Laker QB. His three TDs and no picks is only the second time a Mercyhurst gunslinger has done so over the past five years with Joe Carter doing so in 2021 against Edinboro in a 27-20 win.

4. Keeping it Going

Mercyhurst's defense continues to be spearheaded by two of the better tacklers in the country in Thomas Zacharyasz and Jacob Holl. The pairing collected 26 tackles against Cal and 1.5 sacks with Zacharyasz owning 14 of those takedowns and the full sack. Holl currently sits fifth in the country in total tackles with 99 while Zacharyasz has 90 to be tied for ninth. They both average 11 or more tackles a game with Holl right at 11 per game while his running partner has a slight advantage at 11.2. They've been one of the better defensive duos in all of football this season as they're the only pair of teammates to appear in the top 15 in total tackles in NCAA DII.

5. Scouting Seton Hill

The Griffins come into the game 1-8 with their lone win of the season coming last weekend when they played spoilers, beating Edinboro on their own turf. Seton Hill is winless at home so far this season with the average margin being 16.3 points per game at home. The Griffins have a potent two-person run game as JaiQuawn McGriff and Ky'Ron Craggette have both eclipsed 400 yards on the season; it'll be imperative for Mercyhurst to slow them down if they are to win.
