Bloomsburg, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Field hockey opened PSAC play on Saturday as they traveled to Bloomsburg. The Lakers fell by a score 2-0.
How it Happened
In the first quarter neither team tallied a goal while Bloomsburg had four shots on goal, compared to none from the Lakers. The Huskies also drew two corners in the frame.
The second quarter was more even as Bloomsburg had two shots on goal and the Lakers one. Mercyhurst looked to be heading to halftime tied at zero. Bloom had other ideas as they snuck one past Kayla Desourmeau to make it 1-0 with no time left on the clock.
Trailing by one in third quarter the Lakers forced Bloomsburg to take six shots off target while Desourmeau made two saves. Mercyhurst had one shot on target in the quarter.
Bloomsburg extended their lead just over five minutes into the quarter to make it 2-0. Mercyhurst could not respond and cut the lead in half.
By the Numbers
Desormeau made 10 saves in the game, leads the PSAC in saves and is fourth in save percentage. Jenna Cavalieri, Allyson Doran, and Delfina Magro all tallied a shot on goal for the Lakers. Mercyhurst failed to earn a penalty corner while Bloomsburg had 13.
