ERIE, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Volleyball team plays their final home matches of the season as Slippery Rock and Cal (Pa) come to the Mercyhurst Athletic Center on Friday and Saturday.
1. The Second Go Around
The first time the Lakers matched up against the Rock they fell in three sets.
Kylie Schnars led offensively with eight kills. The first meeting with the Vulcans, the Lakers fought to five sets, but couldn't collect the win. The Lakers posted a .278 hitting percentage in the fourth set to force a fifth frame.
Alexa Mitchell posted 22 assists and
Zoe Gadomski recorded 23 digs in the hard-fought battle.
2. The Big Three
The Lakers offense has been led by three players this season who have recorded triple digit kills. Senior
Kate Hennessy has topped the Laker leaderboard with 160 followed by junior Schnars with 142 and sophomore
Paige Miller with 136. Each of the three offensive standouts are averaging over two kills per set.
3. Home Sweet Home
All of the Lakers wins this season have come at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center. In the five games the Lakers have recorded the most kills this season four have come at home. The Lakers have also had seven of their best performances in hitting percentage come while playing on Owen McCormick Court.
4. Scouting the Opponent
Both Slippery Rock and Cal come into their matchups with the Lakers holding a 5-7 conference record. The Rock is led offensively by sophomore Erica Selfridge who has recorded 217 kills this season. Junior Alayja Floyd has posted 64 blocks for the Vulcans this season. She is seventh in the conference in blocks per set.

The Lakers are set to close out their season next weekend on the road. They travel to UPJ for a Friday evening matchup and play their final match at IUP on Saturday
