Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst Football made the short trip to Gannon Saturday afternoon with the Golden Knights able to get the win. Mercyhurst did all they could to keep pace with their opponent, but were unable to do so as they fall to 2-6 on the year in the 49-14 loss.
How it Happened
Gannon set the tone on their very first drive with them putting seven up on the board to claim their first lead of the game. The Golden Knights exclusively looked to their running back, Melvin Banks, as he rushed for 38 yards on six rushes to put Gannon on the board at the 12:13 mark.Â
Mercyhurst responded in the later stages of the opening frame with their own score as Joe Carter and Joe Kerbacher connected on a 40-yard pass down the middle to tie things up with just over six minutes to go in the first. Gannon immediately drove down the field and scored with Banks getting his second TD of the game. The Golden Knights were thorough in their drive, eating up over four minutes of clock with them handing the ball back to the Lakers with 2:02 to go to up 14-7.
The second quarter ended up belonging to Gannon with them outscoring the Lakers 21-0. The Golden Knights found their success through the air with a pair of passing scores in the quarter along with a scoop and score to help Gannon take a 35-7 lead into halftime.
Mercyhurst was able to get back on the scoreboard in the final frame with Brian Alsobrooks and Kerbacher connecting for the receiver's second score of the day. Alsobrooks led Kerbacher on a pass in the back of the end zone from six yards out. It proved to be a little too late for a comeback, though as the Golden Knights held on to win 49-14.

Diondre Cooper led the way on the ground for the Lakers for the second consecutive game with 35 yards on 13 rushes.
