Erie, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Volleyball team is set to play two matches this week with fellow Erie Country teams. The Lakers will take on Edinboro at home on Tuesday evening and then travel to Gannon on Friday.
1.Early This Season…
In the 2022 season, the Lakers have been bested once by both Edinboro and Gannon. In their first meeting, Edinboro swept the Lakers in three sets at McComb Fieldhouse. When the Golden Knights came to the MAC, they topped Mercyhurst in four sets.
Kate Hennessy recorded nine kills in the loss to Edinboro while
Paige Miller posted 14 against Gannon.
2.Last Laker Win
The last time the Lakers were victorious over the Fighting Scots came on Oct. 9, 2021. Mercyhurst bested Edinboro in three sets. In the match,
Alexa Mitchell recorded 18 assists and 11 digs while Hennessy posted 13 kills.
The Lakers took down the Golden Knights the day before their win against Edinboro. In that match, Mitchell led the Lakers setters with 23 assists and
Zoe Gadomski dug out nine balls. The wins against fellow Erie schools kicked off the Lakers six game win streak a year ago.
3.By the Numbers
Junior
Maggie Thomas owns the best hitting percentage of the Lakers with a .207. She has posted 44 kills in 35 matches played. Hennessy sit atop the scoreboard in kills with 152 averaging 2.27 per set. Defensively,
Zoe Gadomski paces the Lakers with 225 digs averaging 3.26 per set and Kaitlyn Murphy leads in blocks with 41.
4.Scouting the Opponents
Edinboro comes into the match with the Lakers with a 16-6 overall record and is 6-4 in conference play. They are led offensively by Bella Burrelli who has 224 kills and is averaging 2.91 per set.
Gannon sits in second place in the PSAC West behind Clarion who handed the Golden Knights their only conference loss on Oct. 7. Sam Deinek paces Gannon offensively with 216 kills this season.

Four games remain on the Lakers regular season schedule after these matches. They are set to take on Slippery Rock and Cal (Pa) at home next weekend and then Mercyhurst will end their season on the road with matches against Pitt-Johnstown and IUP on Nov. 4 and 5.
