Volleyball Drops PSAC West Match With Seton Hill

Greensburg, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Women's Volleyball team fell in straight sets to PSAC West rival Seton Hill on Saturday on the road.

Set One (L, 25-17)

The Lakers dropped the first set after trading the first five points with the Griffins. Seton Hill went on run after it was 6-5 Lakers and opened the set up as they took a 11-5 lead in the opening set. Mercyhurst tried to make a run and claw themselves back but could not muster up more than two points in a row. Kate Hennesy had three kills on the Lakers last four points of the set.

Set Two (L, 25-16)

Unlike the first set Seton Hill jumped out an early lead. After the first 15 points the Griffins led 11-4 with only one of the four Mercyhurst points being a kill, the other three were errors by Seton Hill. Mercyhurst answered with two four point runs as they made it 15-8 and 21-15. However, after a Seton Hill timeout the Griffins took four of the last five points in the set to win the second set.

Set Three (L, 25-16)

In the third set the teams traded the first seven points until the Griffins once again went on a run and made it 13-4. Mercyhurst responded by taking five of the next six points to cut the lead to 15-9. The Griffins responded with a six point run to make it 20-9. To close the set the Lakers took seven of the last 13 points but could not complete the comeback. 

Mercyhurst was led by a pair in the kill department, Maggie Thomas and Kylie Schnars each had six kills while Kaitlin Murphy and Hennessy each had four kills. Alexa Mitchell led the team with 16 assists while Murphy, Naesha Kelley, Zoe Gadomski each had two aces.

The Lakers are back in action on Tuesday as they host Edinboro at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.
