Erie, Pa.—After going 2-1 last week, the No. 11/20 Mercyhurst Men's Basketball team will take on a pair of soon-to-be PennWest foes in Edinboro and California (Pa.).
The Matchups
The Lakers and Fighting Scots first met to open Mercyhurst's 1972-73 season, and Edinboro is 52-41 ever since. The Lakers swept the 2019-20 season series with a 93-56 win at home on Jan. 29 and an 89-69 win on the road on Feb. 22.
The Lakers have won 22 of 30 contests played against Cal. The two teams split their 2019-20 series with each team winning on their home court.
Rated Rookie
Freshman Aidan Reichert scored a career-high 21 points and brought down seven rebounds in Saturday's win at Kutztown to cap off a stellar week. The Jackson Center, Ohio, native also played a career-high 32 minutes Saturday after scoring 15 points over 31 minutes in Wednesday's loss to Indiana (Pa.). Reichert is averaging 10.1 points per game while shooting a team-high 63.6 percent from the floor.

On Thursday, the Mercyhurst Athletic Department announced the expansion of the Mercyhurst Sports Network to provide live audio broadcasts of select road Mercyhurst games. The first broadcast will allow fans to follow along from home or on the go as the Lakers head to Edinboro Wednesday. Both the men's and women's games will be covered by Jack Angelucci and Connor Piecuch with coverage starting at 5:20 p.m. Both games will be available to stream at https://mixlr.com/mercyhurst-athletics.
National Attention
Following their loss to Indiana (Pa.) on Wednesday, Mercyhurst has slipped in both national polls. The NABC slotted the Lakers at No. 11 while the D2SIDA national media poll has the Lakers at No. 20.
Scouting the Fighting Scots
The Fighting Scots come into Wednesday's game 5-7 and 3-4 in conference play. They took the court at Pitt-Johnstown on Monday and lost 86-64 for their third consecutive loss. The Fighting Scots have been led offensively by Deontae Robertson's 20.3 points and Jaryn Simpson's 15.8 points per game.
Scouting the Vulcans
Cal enters the week 9-4 overall and 4-3 in PSAC play after taking down Edinboro 89-84 on the road Saturday. Philip Alston is averaging a double-double with 21.1 points and 10.8 rebounds per game, and all five starters are averaging in the double-digits.
