Erie, Pa.—Following a 101-66 win over Clarion Monday, the No. 7/9 Mercyhurst Men's Basketball team will welcome in fellow nationally-ranked foe No. 10/8 Indiana (Pa.).
The Matchup
IUP holds the advantage in the all-time series between the two teams that dates back to 1981, holding a 13-28 record against the Lakers. Mercyhurst was victorious the last time the teams met in a home matchup on Feb. 1, 2020.
Big Implications
Apart from its implications in determining national rankings – where the coaches and media have had trouble comparing the two teams, Wednesday's game will shape the top of the PSAC West standings. Including Mercyhurst and IUP, four PSAC West teams have just one loss, so Wednesday's loser will likely slip a few spots in the standings, even if just for a few games.
IUP's game against Slippery Rock that was scheduled for Monday was postponed, so the Mercyhurst men enter Wednesday's game alone atop the division standings with one more game played and one more win to go with it.
Updated Fan Attendance Policy
The Mercyhurst University Athletic Department, in its continued commitment to maintaining the health and safety of the Mercyhurst community, announced that home athletic events will be held with limited spectators until further notice effective January 12. Spectators may only attend if they are on the player pass list.
All games will be broadcast live at https://psacsportsdigitalnetwork.com/hurstathletics.
Scouting the Crimson Hawks
At 12-1 overall and 6-1 against PSAC opponents, IUP's season has looked every bit deserving of their national standing. Their lone loss came to Shippensburg – who Mercyhurst defeated in the Lakers' PSAC opener – on Dec. 19. Meanwhile, the Lakers' loss came to East Stroudsburg – whom IUP is not currently scheduled to play this season – on the same day.
