Erie, Pa --- The Mercyhurst University Volleyball Team will host PSAC West oppents Clarion, and IUP at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center this Friday and Saturday.
The Games
The Lakers will first welcome Clarion into the renovated MAC at 7:00 p.m on Friday night. The Golden Eagles and Lakers have played one another 48 times in the program's histories. Clarion holds a 35-13 record in those contests. Most recently, Clarion beat Mercyhurst in 5 sets 29-27, 27-25, 19-25, 23-25, 17-19.
After Clarion, the Lakers host IUP at 2:00 p.m on Saturday. In the all-time series, Mercyhurst leads IUP 20-8. Most recently, the teams matched up in 2019 at IUP. Mercyhurst defeated the Crimson Hawks in that one, three sets to one.
From Last Weekend
The Lakers dropped a pair of matches in their opening weekend of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play. Mercyhurst dropped a three set match to Slippery Rock at home and then fell to Pitt-Jonston 3-1 the following day.
Beth Brady (23) and Madison Kasper (19) led the team in kills last weekend. Brady (5) also led Mercyhurst in blocks. Also, on the defensive side of the ball Hannah Vuylsteke dug out 43 balls in the two matches.
Scouting Clarion
Clarion will enter Friday night's contest with a 9-5 (1-1) record. Six of the Golden Eagles nine wins have come in straight set fashion.
Scouting IUP
The Crimson Hawks of IUP come into Erie holding a 9-8 (0-2) record. IUP currently holds a two-game win streak, they recently swept Salem University after beating Shippensburg 3-2.
